Music/Other as a genre category exists to hold all the recorded sound that refuses to fit neatly into the rigid, often Western-centric genre buckets that structure most global music distribution and classification systems. These buckets, built to categorize everything from mainstream commercial styles to long-recognized niche forms, often fail to account for the vast range of musical expression that emerges from communities outside of the global north, or from creators who blend multiple traditions into something entirely new that cannot be reduced to a single pre-existing label. Works that fall into Music/Other are not uncategorizable by any measure, but rather they exist outside the narrow set of labels that have been standardized for widespread commercial use, holding space for the nuances, complexities, and unique identities of sounds that carry specific cultural, regional, or personal context that generic genre labels cannot capture.
