About this Song
Across the archipelago that makes up Indonesia, popular music has long served as a thread weaving together hundreds of distinct regional cultural traditions, regional languages, and local artistic sensibilities into a national sound that resonates from the bustling urban centers of Java and Sumatra to the remote rural villages scattered across the country’s more than 17,000 islands. Pop as a primary category of Indonesian commercial and cultural music grew to capture the imagination of audiences across every corner of the nation, balancing global pop production sensibilities that connect it to international mainstream sounds with rooted creative choices that keep it deeply tied to the contexts of its origin.
