About this Song
World Music, a categorical framework that lifts up place-specific creative sonic traditions that might otherwise fall outside the narrow bounds of mainstream Western popular and classical music, centers Terhalang Diding Kaca, a sound hailing from Indonesia, a nation whose centuries of cross-cultural exchange, diverse regional communities, and long history of creative innovation have made it one of the most vibrant contributors to the global World Music landscape. Unlike niche genre categorizations that limit works to a narrow set of sonic or cultural markers, World Music exists to elevate the breadth of creative expression originating from contexts outside of the global cultural mainstream, creating space for works from every continent to reach audiences that might not otherwise seek out regional, place-rooted sounds.
