About this Song
Bigger, the title of this pop sound from Indonesia, occupies space within a decades-long legacy of Indonesian pop that has grown from regional cultural staple to a core component of the global pop landscape, earning recognition for the way creators working within the country’s borders draw on shared cultural touchstones while reimagining the formal and thematic boundaries that have often been incorrectly assigned to the pop genre at large. For too long, global narratives of pop centered only on output from a handful of Western markets, erasing the sustained, innovative work of creators across Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, who have been refining, expanding, and redefining pop for audiences both within their archipelagic home and across the world, building connections that transcend geographic distance to align with pop’s longstanding core ability to meet audiences where they are.
