About this Song
Ini Dangdut emerges as a work rooted in the creative ecosystem of Indonesia, positioned within the broad, intentional category of world music, a framework that has long centered place-specific sonic traditions from across the globe, pushing back against the homogenization of mainstream global music markets that often prioritize a narrow set of Western-centric sounds and stories. To frame any work as world music is to situate it within a global network of creators, listeners, and cultural stewards who recognize sound as more than passive entertainment, but as a living, breathing vessel for collective memory, intergenerational connection, and cultural sovereignty.
