About this Song
Across Indonesia’s sprawling, interconnected creative ecosystem for popular music, creators draw from centuries of regional storytelling traditions to craft work that resonates with local audiences while contributing to a global tapestry of pop that carries distinct, place-specific identity. The creative community that brings forward work rooted in this landscape builds on decades of iterations of Indonesian popular music that have evolved to meet the shifting tastes and experiences of listeners across the archipelago, while retaining core ties to the cultural contexts that shape their connection to audiences. For creators working within this space, every recording they craft is rooted in a shared understanding of what it means to make pop that feels both of its moment and rooted in the long line of creative work that came before it, allowing each new release to carve out its own space within the broader canon of Indonesian popular music.
