About this Song
Indonesian pop’s standing as a dynamic, globally resonant creative force underpins the catalogue’s commitment to centering sounds from the archipelago, prioritizing context and specificity that avoids the flattening of regional artistry into the monolithic, oversimplified categories that often plague mainstream documentation of non-Western popular music. Doin' Time joins a growing roster of Indonesian pop sounds in the collection, each adding a unique layer to the multifaceted portrait of creative work coming out of the country’s sprawling network of creators, who build on longstanding local cultural traditions while engaging with the global language of pop to craft work that feels both rooted in place and connected to the broader community of pop creators working across the world.
