About this Song
Indonesia, a sprawling archipelago of more than 17,000 islands that is home to over 1,300 distinct ethnic communities, each with their own deep-rooted artistic histories, contributes one of the most dynamic and diverse bodies of work to the global category of World Music, a framework that centers creative sonic practices from contexts outside the dominant Western pop and classical industrial complexes, elevating works that might otherwise be overlooked by mainstream cultural infrastructures that have long prioritized output from Europe and North America.
