About this Song
Pop’s enduring power across global music landscapes stems from its ability to fold into the unique creative ecosystems of every region it touches, shaping and being shaped by the long histories of performance, storytelling, and community that define music scenes across every continent, and in Southeast Asia, that synthesis of global pop structure and local cultural heritage has spawned some of the most vibrant, widely beloved pop work being created today. Nowhere is that interplay more layered and meaningful than in Indonesia, a nation made up of more than 17,000 islands that hold hundreds of distinct cultural groups, each with their own centuries-long traditions of music, narrative, and communal celebration that have been passed down through generations.
