About this Song
Rooted in the rich, interconnected tapestry of Indonesian cultural expression that world music as a framework has long lifted up for global audiences, Mubadzir exists as a discrete, immersive sound work that carries the weight and warmth of the regional traditions that shape every meaningful iteration of Indonesian world music that travels beyond local communities to find resonance with listeners across continents and cultural contexts. This work, which fits firmly within the world music genre’s commitment to centering sonic practices that emerge from specific, place-based cultural identities, brings forward the kind of artistic perspective that can only arise from the long, layered history of creative expression that defines Indonesia’s sprawling archipelago, where hundreds of distinct cultural traditions have intermingled for centuries to produce a body of creative work that feeds constantly into the global pool of world music that enriches listening practices everywhere.
