Bukan Yang Pertama
About this Song
For decades, Indonesian musical practices have shaped the global landscape of world music, carrying distinct regional sensibilities that trace back to centuries of community-centered creation, cross-cultural exchange across the archipelago’s thousands of islands, and the ongoing work of creators to translate local lived experience into work that connects with listeners far beyond the country’s borders. The evolution of Indonesian contributions to world music has followed a clear, continuous trajectory, beginning with the first widespread circulation of archipelagal sounds outside of diaspora communities in the mid-20th century, when global audiences first began to seek out musical traditions that fell outside the scope of Western popular and classical canons.
