From the Philippines, Esremborak is a five-piece ukulele rock band whose music blends ukulele-driven rock with lyrics addressing everyday life with wit and candor. The band's name is derived from East Rembo in Makati, where bassist John Michael Tamayo resides and where the band frequently gathers. All five members are teachers, including lead singer MC Mislan, bassist Mike Tamayo, ukulele players Leo Requejo and Nathaniel Panganiban, and drummer Mary Paredes. MC Mislan and Leo Requejo teach Filipino at their alma mater, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), while Mary Paredes teaches Filipino and Performing Arts at FEU, and Nathaniel Panganiban is a Filipino professor at STI. Esremborak's pop single "Mahal Magmahal" is an OPM song about love, financial struggles, and the idea that love alone may not be sufficient. The lyrics use a pun on the Tagalog word 'mahal,' which means both 'expensive' and 'love,' to highlight the difficulty of maintaining a relationship amidst rising costs of living.
