The band's initial lineup included Akhdiyat Duta Modjo on vocals, Saktia "Sakti" Ari Seno and Eross Candra on guitars, Adam Muhammad Subarkah on bass, and Anton Widiastanto on drums. The name "Sheila on 7" refers to the seven-note solfège, and their fanbase is known as "Sheilagank." Sheila on 7 signed with Sony Music Entertainment Indonesia in 1998, and their self-titled debut album, released in 1999, was ranked #33 on Rolling Stone Indonesia's "The 150 Greatest Indonesian Albums of All Time" and achieved multi-platinum status. The band holds the distinction of being the first Indonesian band to sell over one million copies for each of their first three albums.
