About this Song
Filipino rapper and songwriter Hev Abii, also known as Gabriel Abilla, released the single "Kung Ika'y Sasaglit" in 2024. Born in Quezon City on January 31, 2002, Hev Abii co-founded the independent record label Downtown Q Entertainment, which has signed artists such as Kristina Dawn, gins&melodies, Unotheone, and Simmo. His music blends Tagalog and English lyrics, exploring themes of love, street life, and cultural pride, often paying tribute to his hometown, Quezon City, and his street, Tomas Morato Avenue. Hev Abii's songwriting process involves raw, spontaneous bursts, frequently recorded as mumbled melodies, and he cites rappers like Kanye West and Tyler, the Creator as inspirations. Hev Abii gained significant popularity in 2023 with a series of successful singles, starting with "WELCOME2DTQ," which went viral online and was used in over a million TikTok clips, eventually entering Billboard's Philippines Songs chart.
