About this Song
SingSing carries the creative stamp of Ex Battalion, the credited artist behind this sound that originates from the Philippines, categorized under the Music/Other genre space, a classification that rejects the pressure to force all creative audio work into the limited, often Western-centric, genre buckets that dominate most mainstream music distribution frameworks. This designation is not a marker of ambiguity, but a recognition that this work resists easy alignment with the narrow set of standardized genres that structure how most audiences encounter recorded global music, genres that were largely developed to categorize 20th and 21st century Western popular music, and often fail to capture the depth, complexity, and hybridity of work created by artists in the Global South, whose creative roots stretch back through generations of local tradition even as they engage with the full scope of global cultural production available to contemporary creators.
