About this Song
Formed in November 2018 in Baguio, Philippines, the Filipino pop rock band Cup of Joe signed with Viva Records in 2019. The current lineup includes lead vocalists Gian Bernardino and Raphaell Ridao, lead guitarist Gabriel Fernandez, rhythm guitarist CJ Fernandez, and keyboardist Xen Gareza. The band defines their sound as "experimental," incorporating acoustic pop, retro, alternative pop, retro-wave, and neo-folk, with their music frequently influenced by their Baguio environment. Music critics have praised Cup of Joe's ability to create catchy tunes with relatable lyrics and their blend of various styles; for instance, Punch Liwanag of *Manila Bulletin* highlighted their 2020 songs "Sagada" and "Hayaan" as mid-tempo ballads emphasizing their alt-pop style, noting "Sagada" for its "lilting" quality and themes of catharsis. Their 2021 single "Bukod Tangi" was described as a jazzy, new wave-flavored single that drew comparisons to Truefaith.
